Crude sits at the top of the board. US crude rose 4.8% to $91.31 and Brent added 4.59% to $94.33, extending a run that now stands at 28.27% and 26.67% respectively over the past month.
Almost everything else leaned lower. Crypto, metals and equity indices all closed the last session in the red.
Energy and commodities
Both crude benchmarks dominate the gainers list. US crude is up 47.99% on the year, Brent 41.3%, and the weekly moves (11.64% and 8.79%) show the acceleration is recent.
That strength stands in contrast to the rest of the commodity and metals complex.
Metals
The precious metals took the other side. Silver fell 3.48% to $57.63, palladium dropped 3.02% and platinum lost 2.67%.
Gold slipped 2.04% to $4,048.88, though it still holds a 4.8% gain over the past year. The one-day pullback was broad across the metal group.
Crypto
Digital assets filled most of the losers list. Dogecoin led lower at -4.81%, followed by GRT (-4.27%) and MATIC (-4.2%). Bitcoin Cash fell 3.88%.
The majors softened too. Bitcoin eased 1.55% to $65,051.69 but remains up 5.81% on the month. Ethereum dropped 2.64% to $1,881.52, still 10.8% higher over 30 days. XRP fell 2.87%. Tezos bucked the trend, adding 2.58%.
Currencies and indices
The dollar firmed against most peers. USD/ZAR rose 2.0% to 16.718, USD/SEK added 0.56%, and USD/JPY climbed 0.45% to 163.82. EUR/USD slipped 0.32% to 1.13747 and GBP/USD fell 0.44% to 1.33146.
Equity indices were uniformly weaker. The DAX dropped 1.38%, the Euro Stoxx 50 fell 1.66% and the IBEX 35 lost 1.79%. In the US, the S&P 500 fell 1.02%, the Dow 0.99% and the Nasdaq 100 1.42%.
Heading into the session, crude remains the clear outlier to the upside while metals and crypto are the day’s soft spots.
