Energy leads the tape into the new session. US crude sits at $85.90, up 1.81% on the day and 21.24% over the past month, with Brent close behind at $90.19 (+1.30%). Both barrels have now run more than 7% higher on the week.
Commodities & Metals
Crude is the clearest theme on the board, but the metals are keeping pace. Silver added 1.45% to $59.69, extending a 7.43% weekly climb. Gold rose 1.22% to $4,130.27, and platinum firmed 0.63% to $1,645.32.
The reflation flavor runs across the top of the gainers list β four of the five biggest movers are oil, silver and gold.
Crypto
Crypto opens on the back foot. Bitcoin eased 0.97% to $65,864, though it holds a 9.88% monthly gain. Ethereum was essentially flat at $1,926, still up nearly 20% on the month.
The standouts are on the downside: Stellar fell 2.32% and Bitcoin Cash dropped 2.15%. Litecoin bucked the trend, adding 1.22% to $47.34 and leading the majors higher on the week.
Currencies & Indices
FX is quiet, with the majors barely budging. EUR/USD held at 1.1406 and GBP/USD at 1.3369, both little changed on the day. USD/JPY sat at 163.09.
The krone was the more active corner β USD/NOK slid 0.72% to 9.5622 and EUR/NOK fell 0.68%, in step with firmer oil.
European equities carried a green tint: the FTSE 100 rose 1.07%, the IBEX 35 gained 1.03%, and the DAX added 0.40%. The contrast came from Tokyo, where the Nikkei 225 dropped 1.69% to 66,251, and Wall Street’s Nasdaq 100 slipped 0.37%.
Into the session, the split between rising commodities and a softer crypto tape remains the clearest divide on the board, with the Nikkei the day’s weakest index.
