Crude is the standout as the session begins. Brent (UKOil) surged 7.35% to $87.58 and WTI (USOil) added 3.4% to $83.64, both extending a monthly climb of over 21% even after losing ground on the week.
Equities went the other way, with a broad risk-off tone across the major indices.
Indices
The Nasdaq 100 led the declines, down 2.87% to 27,150, now off 8.71% on the month. The Dow fell 2.23% and the S&P 500 dropped 2.02% to 7,309.
Asia was split. The Nikkei 225 tumbled 2.78% to 60,966 and is down 12.9% over the month, while the Hang Seng bucked the mood, rising 1.64% and up 12.66% on the month.
Europe softened too, with the IBEX 35 off 1.93% and the Euro Stoxx 50 down 1.11%.
Currencies
The dollar traded broadly weaker. EUR/USD rose 0.67% to 1.1462 and GBP/USD gained 0.54% to 1.3357.
The move was sharpest against the Scandinavian crosses: USD/NOK fell 1.33% and USD/SEK dropped 0.67%. USD/JPY eased 0.29% to 163.39. Gold firmed 1.05% to $4,067, with silver up 0.69%.
Crypto
Digital assets leaned lower. Bitcoin slipped 0.56% to $63,484 and Ethereum eased 1.63% to $1,888, though ETH holds an 8.39% monthly gain.
The damage was heavier down the cap scale. Bitcoin Cash fell 3.74%, Litecoin dropped 3.19% and GRT lost 3.31%. Uniswap was a rare gainer, up 2.45%.
With the equity indices under pressure and crude sharply higher, energy and the tech-heavy Nasdaq remain the session’s clearest split.
