The United Kingdom’s CPI y/y figure landed at 06:00 UTC on 22 July 2026, and the pound edged lower across most of its crosses in the 30 minutes that followed. The biggest move came in GBPCAD, which slipped 0.08%.

Where the GBP moved

GBPCAD led the reaction, easing from 1.88710 to 1.88552, a move of -0.08%.

GBPUSD softened next, dipping from 1.33810 to 1.33748, down 0.05%. GBPSGD tracked a similar path, slipping from 1.72742 to 1.72665 for a -0.05% change.

The pound held steadier elsewhere. GBPNOK inched up 0.02% from 12.87512 to 12.87787, while GBPSEK ticked 0.02% higher from 12.98272 to 12.98512. GBPAUD was near flat, easing just -0.01% from 1.91238 to 1.91216.

What the reaction shows

The reaction was muted overall, with no cross moving more than a tenth of a percent. The softest tone showed against the Canadian dollar, US dollar and Singapore dollar, where the pound gave back small ground.

Against the Scandinavian pair and the Australian dollar, sterling was little changed to marginally firmer, leaving the post-release picture mixed rather than one-directional. Thirty minutes on, the moves remained contained across the board.
