Energy set the tone into the US close. Brent (UKOil) fell 3.95% to $81.58 and WTI (USOil) shed 3.57% to $78.37, capping a rough week of roughly -10% for both grades β even as each still holds a double-digit monthly gain.
Commodities and metals
The pressure spread across the metals complex. Silver dropped 2.14% to $57.11, extending a 4.35% weekly slide. Gold eased 1.09% to $4,029, palladium slipped 1.75% and platinum lost 0.85%.
That left precious metals broadly on the back foot, with silver leading the declines behind crude.
Indices
Equities split. The Dow (US30) firmed 0.96% to 52,720.89 and the S&P 500 added 0.27%, but the Nasdaq 100 fell 0.72% to 27,808.57 and is now down 4.03% on the week and 6.23% on the month.
Europe closed higher: the FTSE 100 rose 0.99% to 10,896.62 and the CAC 40 gained 0.62%. Asia was the laggard β the Nikkei 225 dropped 1.75%, deepening a 6.32% weekly loss.
Currencies
FX moves were contained. EUR/USD ticked up 0.19% to 1.13902 while GBP/USD was flat at 1.3289. USD/JPY barely budged at 163.80.
The standout was the rand: USD/ZAR fell 1.23% to 16.568. NOK/SEK also slid 1.48%, and USD/SEK dropped 0.54%.
Crypto
Crypto topped the gainers board. UNI led with a 5.05% jump to $3.8925, Cardano rose 2.97% and Ethereum added 1.43% to $1,917.37. Bitcoin was steadier, up 0.24% at $63,831.86.
What to watch: the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 remains the session’s soft spot among the majors, while crude’s weekly drawdown stands out against its positive monthly reading.
