The Japanese yen dominated the European session, forcing every major yen cross onto the day’s losers list. USD/JPY dropped 2.31% to 159.53, with CAD/JPY (-2.17%), SGD/JPY (-1.88%), EUR/JPY (-1.83%) and GBP/JPY (-1.62%) all in tow.

Currencies

The yen move was broad and the clearest theme on the board. USD/JPY is down 2.63% on the week and 1.57% on the month.

The dollar was soft elsewhere too. USD/SEK fell 1.48%, USD/CHF slipped 1.12% and USD/ZAR dropped 1.58%. Against that, EUR/USD firmed 0.49% to 1.15218 and GBP/USD added 0.71% to 1.3460.

The commodity dollars firmed, with NZD/USD up 1.16% and AUD/USD up 0.93%, though both lost ground against the resurgent yen.

Indices

European equities closed higher across the board. The Euro Stoxx 50 rose 2.10% to 6362.38 and Spain’s IBEX 35 added 2.04%, extending a year that leaves it up 37.56%. The CAC 40 gained 1.32%, the DAX 0.95% and the FTSE 100 0.75%.

Wall Street was firm as London wound down, the Nasdaq 100 up 3.00% and the S&P 500 up 1.29%. The Nikkei 225 stood out overnight, rallying 3.47% despite its -8.59% month.

Metals & Crypto

The precious complex leaned green. Palladium jumped 3.69% and platinum 2.42%, while silver added 1.38% and gold edged up 0.44% to 4102.78.

Crypto’s standout was Uniswap, up 11.07% on the day and 20.79% on the week. Cardano rose 5.19% and BNB 3.42%, while Bitcoin managed a modest 1.24% to 64,683.36.

Crude was the session’s soft spot: UK Oil fell 1.18% and US Oil 0.41%, leaving both down more than 6% on the week even as monthly gains near 19% hold.

With the US session still live, the yen crosses remain the day’s defining move to track into the close.
