Crude was the standout move of the European session, with US oil down 6.51% to 83.59 and UK oil off 5.85% to 87.19. Both remain sharply higher on the month β up more than 21% β but today’s slide dominated the tape.
Energy and Commodities
The two crude contracts were the day’s biggest losers by a wide margin. Despite the drop, WTI holds a 38% year-on-year gain and Brent 33%, so the retreat came off elevated levels.
Metals leaned the other way. Silver rose 2.52% to 59.66, extending a 5.89% weekly advance. Gold added 1.01% to 4,094, with platinum up 1.72% and palladium up 2.45%.
Equities
European stocks closed broadly firmer. The IBEX 35 led with a 1.68% gain to 19,572, followed by the DAX 40 up 1.14% at 25,350. The Euro Stoxx 50 rose 0.93% and the CAC 40 added 0.69%.
London’s FTSE 100 gained 0.67% to 10,794, up 3.19% on the week. US benchmarks were higher in tandem, with the Nasdaq 100 up 1.51% and the S&P 500 up 0.90%, though the Nasdaq remains down 4.09% over the month.
Crypto
Uniswap led all gainers, jumping 6.08% to 3.89. Ethereum rose 2.57% to 1,920 and is up 7.66% on the month, while Bitcoin Cash added 2.54% and Litecoin 2.39%. Bitcoin itself was more subdued, up 0.71% at 64,758.
The softer names were smaller-cap tokens: GRT fell 1.86% and Tezos 1.21%.
FX
Currency moves stayed contained. The dollar eased against several crosses, with USD/ZAR down 0.62% and USD/NOK off 0.46%. EUR/USD ticked up 0.16% to 1.1387 and GBP/USD held near 1.3329.
Into the close, crude remains the session’s clear weak spot, standing apart from an otherwise broadly higher day across equities and metals.
