Crude oil was the standout as the London session wound down. US crude climbed 4.8% to $91.31 and Brent added 4.59% to $94.33, extending a run that has taken WTI up more than 28% on the month.

While energy surged, European equities took the opposite path, closing broadly in the red.

Commodities

Both crude benchmarks now sit sharply higher over every timeframe in the data. USOil is up 11.64% on the week and 47.99% on the year; Brent shows a similar profile at 8.79% and 41.3%. That divergence β€” energy up, most everything else down β€” defined the day.

Equities

The selling was concentrated across the continent. The IBEX 35 dropped 1.79%, the Euro Stoxx 50 fell 1.66% and the CAC 40 lost 1.65%. Germany’s DAX 40 slipped 1.38% to 24,777.

The FTSE 100 held up better, down 0.82%, but still finished lower. US benchmarks tracked the same tone in early trade, with the Nasdaq 100 off 1.42% and the S&P 500 down 1.02%.

Metals and Crypto

Precious metals came under pressure. Silver fell 3.48% to $57.63 and platinum dropped 2.67%, while gold eased 2.04% to $4,048.88 β€” though gold still holds a modest weekly and monthly gain.

Crypto was heavy across the board. Dogecoin led the declines at -4.81%, with GRT down 4.27% and Bitcoin Cash off 3.88%. Bitcoin slipped 1.55% to $65,051 and Ethereum lost 2.64%. Tezos bucked the trend, rising 2.58%.

In FX, the dollar firmed against most majors. USD/ZAR jumped 2% and USD/SEK added 0.56%, while EUR/USD eased 0.32% to 1.1375 and GBP/USD fell 0.44%.

What to watch

The split between a rallying energy complex and a broad risk-off tone across equities, metals and crypto remains the session’s defining feature into the North American close.
