CAD steadies after Canadian CPI data

Canada’s inflation figures β€” CPI m/m, Median CPI y/y and Trimmed CPI y/y β€” landed at 12:30 UTC on 20 July 2026, and the Canadian dollar’s response across our feed was contained. The biggest reaction came in AUDCAD, which edged up 0.122% in the 75 minutes since the release.

AUDCAD moved from 0.98326 to 0.98446, the standout on an otherwise quiet board. Beyond that pair, the shifts were slight. CADCHF firmed 0.026% from 0.576325 to 0.57648, while CADJPY added 0.025%, rising from 115.679 to 115.708.

On the softer side, NZDCAD slipped 0.022% from 0.82158 to 0.82140, and EURCAD eased 0.016% from 1.60319 to 1.60293. GBPCAD ticked up 0.019%, from 1.88864 to 1.88900.

The picture that emerges is a broadly muted one. The Canadian dollar drifted modestly weaker against the Australian dollar but held roughly steady elsewhere, with gains and losses against the loonie both measured in hundredths of a percent. With every pair aside from AUDCAD moving less than 0.03%, the reaction to the inflation data was concentrated in that single cross rather than spread across the CAD complex.
