Australia’s Employment Change and Unemployment Rate figures landed at 01:30 UTC on July 23, and the Australian dollar strengthened broadly in the immediate aftermath. The sharpest move came in EURAUD, which slipped 0.27% as the Aussie firmed against the euro.
Where the AUD moved
EURAUD led the reaction, falling from 1.63193 to 1.62750, a drop of 0.27% that reflected AUD strength against the euro.
AUDUSD moved in the opposite direction, rising 0.27% from 0.69966 to 0.70153 as the Aussie gained on the greenback.
AUDCAD and AUDJPY each climbed 0.24%. AUDCAD advanced from 0.98486 to 0.98725, while AUDJPY rose from 114.0945 to 114.371.
AUDNZD added 0.24%, moving from 1.20268 to 1.20557, and AUDSGD gained 0.24%, edging from 0.90281 to 0.90494.
What the reaction shows
The reaction was consistent and one-directional: the Australian dollar strengthened against every counterpart in our feed. The moves clustered tightly, with most AUD crosses shifting between 0.24% and 0.27%.
That uniformity points to a broad-based bid for the Aussie rather than a story concentrated in a single pair. EURAUD and AUDUSD registered the largest swings, but the spread across all six instruments was narrow.
The magnitude of the moves was moderate rather than dramatic, with each instrument landing within roughly a quarter of a percent of its pre-release level.
