The Australian dollar drifted lower across the board after RBA Governor Michele Bullock spoke at 03:05 UTC on 28 July 2026. The largest move came in GBPAUD, which edged up 0.10% as the Aussie softened.

Where the AUD moved

GBPAUD led the reaction, rising from 1.90312 to 1.90500, a gain of 0.10% that reflected a softer Aussie against sterling.

AUDCAD slipped 0.08%, easing from 0.98637 to 0.98555. AUDCHF moved in step, down 0.08% from 0.57206 to 0.57160.

EURAUD firmed 0.08%, climbing from 1.62810 to 1.62937. AUDUSD dipped 0.07%, from 0.69872 to 0.69823, while AUDNZD gave back 0.06%, sliding from 1.20995 to 1.20925.

What the reaction shows

The moves were small and pointed consistently in one direction: a marginally weaker Australian dollar against every counterpart in our feed 25 minutes after the release.

The reaction concentrated in the sterling and commodity-currency crosses, with GBPAUD and AUDCAD showing the widest swings, while AUDNZD registered the most contained response.

With no single move exceeding one tenth of a percent, the overall reaction to Bullock’s remarks was muted rather than a decisive repricing of the Aussie.
