About USD/DKK
USD/DKK is, in practice, a restatement of EUR/USD. Denmark is an EU member outside the euro area but participates in ERM II, holding the krone close to a central rate against the euro within a formally narrow band, and in practice Danmarks Nationalbank keeps it far tighter than the band requires. The Danish central bank’s single objective is that peg, so it follows the ECB rather than pursuing an independent path.
What Moves USD/DKK?
EUR/USD
The dominant driver by a wide margin. Because the krone tracks the euro closely, movement in this pair comes almost entirely from the dollar side of EUR/USD.
European Central Bank policy
Danmarks Nationalbank shadows the ECB in order to defend the peg, so ECB decisions transmit to Danish rates.
Federal Reserve policy
The other half of EUR/USD, and therefore of this pair.
Defence of the peg
Danmarks Nationalbank intervenes and adjusts its own rates to hold the krone near its central rate. These actions are the only meaningful source of independent krone movement.
