Pip Value Calculator
Calculate the value of a pip for any forex pair and position size. Free forex pip calculator with instant results β majors, JPY crosses and gold.
What is a pip?
A pip (“percentage in point”) is the standard smallest price move in a currency
pair. For most pairs it is the fourth decimal place β 0.0001. For pairs quoted
against the Japanese yen it is the second decimal β 0.01. Knowing the value of
one pip tells you how much each tick of price movement is worth on your position.
How to use this calculator
Pick your currency pair and enter your position size in lots (one standard lot is 100,000 units). The calculator returns the pip size, the number of units, and the value of a single pip in the pair’s quote currency.
How pip value is calculated
Pip value = pip size Γ units
For example, one standard lot (100,000 units) of a pair with a 0.0001 pip is worth
10 units of the quote currency per pip. If your trading account is denominated in
a different currency, multiply this figure by the exchange rate between the quote
currency and your account currency.
Why it matters
Pip value is the building block of position sizing and risk management. Once you know what a pip is worth, you can work out exactly how much a stop-loss of N pips will cost you β which is how you size a trade to a fixed risk.
